The Degenia Trail
Description
The trail begins in Sibinj, along the Adriatic Highway, and ends in Kozica, at the campsite also located on the Adriatic Highway. It is 10 km long and covers two canyon-like valleys extending inland, between the hills of Veliki Vrh (512 m), Osredak (502 m), Vrataruša (510 m), and Kokerna (539 m).
The trail is named after Degenia, a plant species that was previously believed to grow only at higher altitudes of the Velebit mountain. The trail passes through Vodna draga and circles Tomiška draga along its northern and western rocky edges at altitudes of 400 to 500 meters. The Hungarian botanist Árpád Degen is credited with discovering this Croatian endemic species, which was named after him – Degenia.
