Bribir Tower
**The Guardian of Frankopan Monuments – The Tower in Bribir** is a historical symbol that testifies to the power and influence of the Frankopan family in the Vinodol region. This impressive tower was part of a defensive fortress that once included double walls, a long and narrow courtyard, and residential and administrative buildings. The fortress was also surrounded by two towers – a round one and a square one.
Today, only the square tower remains, known as **Turan**, which is inscribed with the year 1302 and fragments of fortifications. The Turan tower bears witness to the importance of this site throughout history, as it was a key point of defense for the Frankopan estates.
Visitors to Bribir can enjoy the view of this cultural heritage and experience the spirit of past times while exploring the remnants of the fortress and learning about the significance of this tower in the defensive history of Croatia.

The castle came into the possession of the Princes of Krk, later known as the Frankopans, at the beginning of the 13th century. The Turan tower has remained intact in its original floor plan, and the interior of the tower preserves the historical phase of its transformation into a prison, with very narrow prison cells.
This phase is marked by small square windows framed with stone jambs on the eastern façade. The original gunports have been preserved on all façades. The other parts of the castle were demolished in the 19th century to make way for the construction of a school and municipal building.
Turan also preserves another valuable reminder of the Frankopans, which is the Interpretation Center of the Cultural Route "The Frankopan Paths," dedicated to the Vinodol Law.
